The AIA Monterey Bay Chapter, in collaboration with the cities and County of the Monterey Peninsula, is sponsoring an international design competition to create work force and attainable housing in these communities, and to serve as models for others with similar housing needs, in a manner that recognizes important resource issues, changing demographics, new socio-economic realities and the environmental assets of the Monterey Peninsula -- one of California's great resources. The purpose of this competition is to generate innovative housing models that will enable the public and decision makers to (1) comprehend the potentials of new designs and alternative development patterns to meet attainable housing goals and to use land more efficiently, and (2) to understand how creative housing designs can "fit" within the fabric of their communities. The competition sponsors intend to demonstrate the results of this competition by providing opportunities to build the winning designs at sites throughout the County. The competition is open to all architects, urban designers, landscape architects, urban and regional planners, engineers, educators, students and others interested in housing, conservation and development issues. Multi-disciplinary teams, that include specialists in the many areas critical to these issues, are encouraged. Bill Liskamm, FAIA, will serve as the Competition Advisor. For additional information regarding this competition, visit the competition website at www.conceptscompetition.org or contact Bill Liskamm, FAIA Competition Advisor at e-mail: concepts-info
