Design Awards Call for Entry

Because of the virtually trouble-free electronic submission of projects for consideration by the jury last year, the Design Committee announces a repeat and refinement of that process for Design Awards 2003. The Call for Entry is posted on the Chapter's web page, www.aiahouston.org.

Submission deadline is January 31, 2003. The jury will meet on February 9 and 10, with the Design Dialogue and Announcement Reception on the evening of February 10.

Mark your calendars and begin to select the projects you will enter.

AIA/AGC Joint Meeting in December

Save Wednesday, December 4, for a wine-tasting with our colleagues at AGC. This annual joint gathering takes many forms, but it is always an expression of the spirit of collaboration that exists between architects and contractors in Houston. Watch your email for details. You don't receive regular emails from AIA Houston? Call us and we'll correct your email address on our list-713/520-5134-or email martha

Holiday Open House

Holiday Open House
Tuesday, December 10
5:30 - 7 pm
Chapter Office

Join your colleagues to toast the season, celebrate a year of achievements, and select the objects to add to the AIA Houston Design Collection at the Museum of Fine Arts Houston.

Entering its third year, the AIA Houston Design Collection boasts six additions to the Decorative Arts Collection at MFAH: by Eliel Saarinen, Frank Gehry, Sally Walsh, Norman Bel Geddes, Sir Norman Foster, Andrea Branzi, and Louis Sullivan. This collaboration between AIA Houston and MFAH enriches public understanding of the impact of design on their lives and creates a permanent recognition of the role of AIA Houston and its members in building the collection.

Funded in part by proceeds from the annual Sand Castle Competition, the Collection also accepts contributions from firms and individuals. At the fall Champagne and Chocolate celebration of the Collection hosted by Carolyn Brewer at Sunset Settings, an additional $2000 was added to the fund, enabling the Collection to grow.

Cindi Strauss, Associate Curator of Decorative Arts and Rienze at MFAH, will introduce the objects available for purchase at the Holiday Open House. Members in attendance will vote to select the object or objects for purchase.

Upcoming Events
