Re: Norman Dorf's recent Building Design and Technology Workshop

To AIA Houston,

THANK YOU so much for bringing this wonderful expert and his informative seminar to us! After repeat attempts to pass these sections (including under the ol' 12 hour pen & paper type), I hope to go on in the next two or three weeks and pass BOTH of these!!! My confidence is up and the tips from the lecture were fantastic! I will brag to you all, as soon as I am declared "passed" on these sections.

p.s. Only one more section, CD's, after these---

p.p.s. Lonnie's cuisine was fabulous as always--- ---keep the Starbuck's coming!

Thanks again for this opportunity!

Motivating Workers in Today's Economy

Following are highlights of a news release from Zweig White & Associates. The article identifies ways to ensure that staffing needs are filled with employees who are motivated to do the job, do it fast, and enhance your firm's reputation.

    1. Get rid of pointless titles. It's usually not hard for the recipient to see that no change in responsibilities means no real change in the job.
    2. Eliminate bureaucracy, such as too many meetings, too many committees, and too many layers of approval to go through.
    3. Evaluate pay four times a year. This is one of the best ways to tell someone they are doing a good job (or not so good).
    4. Commit to revenue growth.
    5. Share information on the company. When people are kept informed, they feel as if they are being treated with respect.
    6. Buy needed tools and equipment. Good equipment is much more motivating than equipment that is unreliable or outdated.
    7. Confront the morale busters. Confront negative people who are always skeptical and can't wait to get others to feel as bad as they do.
