Watkins Hamilton Ross is pleased to announce that Ken L. Ross, Jr., FAIA, ACHA, has been invested into the College of Fellows. Laurie Quates, SDA, Gus Blanco, AIA, ACHA, Greg L. Roberts, AIA, CSI, CCS, CCCA, and Peter Lotz, AIA, have all been elevated to Associate Principal. WHR has recently been awarded the contract to provide professional services for Phase One of the Pharmacy Building Renovations at the University of Texas in Austin.

FKP is pleased to announce Leland K. Turner, AIA, has been promoted to Principal at the firm. He will continue his role as Director of Hospitality. Project Coordinator Benjamin Sauceda, AIA, Interior Design Manager Gin Kappler and Project Designer S. Alan Black have completed the Architectural Registration Examination and are now registered architects in the state of Texas. Also, they have welcomed Tho Ngo and Paul Asteris as Project Coordinators. Joseph R. Maytum, AIA, rejoins the firm as a Project Designer and Associate.

m ARCHITECTS has been selected to design a prototype e-Library for the Houston Public Library. The project addresses the growing need for low-income and minority families to have access to computers, multimedia resources, and internet access. This prototype facility will consist of 5,000 square feet dedicated to a reading center, a digital information center, and a listening center. If approved, the design will be implemented in facilities throughout the city.

Morris Architects announces the election of Mark Martoff as Director of its Public Assembly Design Studio. Also, Bill Tomlinson, AIA, Robine Hendricks, Janice Ives, Coye Morgenweck, Scott Watkins and Melba Williams have been promoted to Associate. They are also happy to announce David Asaud, AIA, Dan Searight, AIA, Brady Vinje, AIA, and Trung Doan, RA, have been promoted to Associate Principal. Morris has also been awarded the Northwest Hospital Facility Expansion by the Memorial Hermann Healthcare System.

Di Nunzio Architects was highlighted in the Home Design section of Texas Magazine on July 14, 2002, featuring their renovation of the high rise home at Four Leaf Towers. Carlo Di Nunzio, AIA, was interviewed by the Houston Business Journal for a feature article in the July 12-18 Focus section. The article emphasized his expertise in contemporary loft design.

Steven A. Parshall, FAIA, senior vice president of Hellmuth, Obata + Kassabaum, and practice director of HOK, has been awarded the William M. Peña Professorship in Information Management and will teach a graduate architecture seminar this fall at Texas A&M University's College of Architecture.

RWS Architects is pleased to announce the promotion of Juha I. Nolo, AIA, to Project Manager.

The Design/Build team of Tellepsen Solutions/Pearson English has been awarded a renovation project for the Texas A&M University Galveston. The 44,000 SF project will convert an empty, leased office/manufacturing facility next to the Galveston campus into office, administration, research and classroom space. Pearson English has also received the prestigious Award for Community Enhancement (ACE) in recognition of the adaptive reuse/renovation project at 1919 Decatur. This project converted a church built in 1891 (and listed in the National Register of Historic Places) into office space providing a functional, alternative office environment.

Kaufman Meeks + Partners has changed its name to Meeks+Partners. In Houston, Som Petchsrisom, AIA, Jon A. Préjean, NCARB and Larry P. Santich will continue to lead the award-winning firm.

Ray Bailey Architects is pleased to announce the addition of J. Douglas Parker, CPSM, as Director of Marketing and Business Development.

EDI Architects, Inc. announces the completion of the consulate of Angola for which they provided interior design services. The 5,500 square foot suite is located in the Galleria area. Jefferson at President's Park Community Clubhouse won an AURORA Award in the "Best Recreational Facility" category. The AURORA Awards are affiliated with the Florida Home Builders Association and the Southeast Building Conference.

Correction: The July/August issue of AIA Perspective incorrectly reported that Morris Architects acquired Irvine, a well-known interior and project management firm. In fact, Morris acquired only the interior design practice of Irvine, not the project management practice. This allows Irvine to concentrate its practice solely on project management.



In Memoriam

Carl "Jack" Jackson Greene, Jr. born June 7, 1945, in Gainesville, TX. Devoted husband, father and grandfather, he died at home in Richardson on Sunday, July 14 after a valiant battle with cancer. Jack received a Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Houston in 1968. Jack began his career in Houston at several small firms followed by 14 years with Gensler & Assoc. where he eventually served as administrative partner. His career took him to San Antonio in 1994 where he was principal at The Marks Design Group and taught design at UT/San Antonio. He moved to Dallas in 2000 to be near his children and grandchild. While leading projects for lauckgroup in Dallas he worked side-by-side with his daughter and became "Daddy Jack" to his co-workers. Jack was involved in numerous industry organizations and was committed to furthering the practice of architecture and design through various leadership positions in these organizations. Most recently, he was president of the IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter. Memorials may be made in Jack's name to the Ascension Church's capital campaign, the IIDA Texas/Oklahoma Chapter Endowment, c/o IIDA, 1400 Turtle Creek Blvd., Ste. 100E, LB 20, Dallas, TX. 75207, or the Castle Peak Hospice, Dallas.

M. Stuart Nimmons, III, of Atlanta, Georgia, died on Wednesday, July 24. Stuart received his Bachelor of Architecture degree from Texas Tech University and his Post Baccalaureate degree from the University of Houston. He was a leader in the interior design department of PGA prior to his move to Atlanta. He was actively involved in and was a member of the Institute of Business Designers, the International Facilities Management Association, the Georgia Alliance of Interior Design Professionals, and the American Institute of Architects. Having been involved for years in the local and national interior design communities, he was employed at prominent architectural and interior design firms in both Houston and Atlanta.

SpawGlass Construction Corp. was awarded the University of Houston-Downtown's multi-story New Classroom Building, which will be delivered as a Construction Manager-at-Risk project. The building, designed by Gensler, will house classrooms, a lecture hall, seminar rooms and offices for the Departments of Urban Education and Criminal Justice. In July, SpawGlass broke ground on a new building for the Houston office. Amer Al-Nahhas, Vice President, is serving as Project Manager and Doug Jeter is Senior Superintendent. The Houston office will be located at the corner of West Road and Westland East Blvd. in northwest Houston.

The Association of Consulting Municipal Engineers, of the Houston Chapter of the Texas Council of Engineering Companies, has elected Edwin C. Friedrichs, PE, to its board of directors. Friedrichs is President of the Infrastructure Division of Walter P. Moore.

The International Association of Lighting Designers recently elevated Lance Gandy, IALD, of Bos Lighting Design, to professional status after review of his portfolio and credentials. He is a Project Designer for Bos Lighting Design where he has worked on several award-winning projects including the entry for American General and renovations to the Bush Intercontinental Airport.

Brookstone has been selected to perform construction management services for the Fort Bend Independent School District Football Stadium and Field House project. This athletic complex, designed by SHW Group, Inc., will serve as a second district stadium and field house for the school district and will be locate adjacent to Hightower High School on Hurricane Lane in Missouri City, Texas.

Walter P. Moore announces that Jim Getty has joined the firm as Senior Project Manager and building envelope specialist.

D.E. Harvey Builders has completed construction of the new 170,000 sf headquarters for Faust Distributing Company. The $12.5 million facility is located on a 26-acre parcel of land located on I-10 East near downtown Houston. The new facility occupied June 1 of this year was built to consolidate five Faust warehouse facilities into one location and accommodate future growth.

McGraw-Hill Construction, part of the McGraw-Hill companies (NYSE: MHP), unveiled its new branding and logo at the national AIA Convention in Charlotte.
