Please join Paul Hester of Rice University as he presents a brief overview on Shooting Your Own Projects: Selecting digital or film equipment, composing exterior shots, determining exposures on night and interior shots, utilizing basic Photoshop editing. With FotoFest approaching, AIA Houston is offering this workshop to help promote the event and encourage architects to get involved in the competition. THE SYSTEM APPROACH TO THERMAL PERFORMANCE
Please join Virgil Crane of Icynene Inc. for a seminar about the system approach to thermal performance. This presentation will highlight developments in building science with an emphasis on the use insulation and its relationship to the durability and air quality problems that many buildings seem to be experience. During the past 50 years buildings have begun to experience failures in the form of moisture accumulation and mold within the building envelope. We will explore why this is occurring and how to minimize the potential for problems.

Please join Julie Pippert of Essential Wellness Services for a seminar about occupational health design geared towards the architectural community. With OSHA and NIOSH specifications in mind, designing ergonomics, safety, and occupational health standards into workspaces to reduce employee health issues such as repetitive stress injuries, lower back disorders, and other common disabilities resulting from poorly designed workspaces. Please join Glenn Miller of Temple-Inland for a three-part seminar where attendees will gain an understanding of the composition of Fire-Resistant wallboard and its distinguishing characteristics from traditional wall board. They will also gain knowledge of all types of finishing for gypsum wallboard through a first-hand look of each level. Lastly, participants will gain knowledge of how recycled fly ash is incorporated into the gypsum wallboard manufacturing process, additionally becoming more familiar with how this recycled gypsum wallboard contributes to LEED. For more than 70 years, Frank Lloyd Wright showed his countrymen new ways to build their homes and see the world around them. He created some of the most monumental, and some of the most intimate spaces in America. He designed everything: banks and resorts, office buildings and churches, a filling station and a synagogue, a beer garden and an art museum. From his first house to his final masterpiece, follow Frank Lloyd Wrights extraordinary career, his life, and 20th century American architecture. Updates to Getting More Out of Your Land Surveys
Stephen Godinich of Jones & Carter will provide a seminar on Land Survey updates. Attendees will become better prepared to order land surveys and acquire a better product for their client, gain a better understanding of the time frames of different surveys for better project scheduling, and manage projects more efficiently. In addition, preliminary screening questions to ask a surveyor will be explored along with changes in the surveying profession that affect architects and engineers. Geotechnical, Forensic and Environmental Issues with Houston Buildings
AIA welcomes back Mr. David Eastwood, P.E. of Geotech Engineering and Testing will help attendees understand the basics and importance of conducting geotechnical, forensic and environmental issues and the effects on building design and construction. He will discuss environmental site assessment studies, wetlands, faulting, geotechnical field studies, laboratory testing, data analysis, expansive soils, foundation types and risks and much more. Furthermore, Mr. Eastwood will discuss forensic evaluation of distressed buildings in Houston. This class will be held at the AIA Office 3000 Richmond, Ste 500.
