THIS CLASS HAS BEEN RESCHEDULED FOR TUESDAY JUNE 6 J. Peter Jordan 2 Part Seminar: PartI: Substitutions This, That, or Whatever PartII: Changes in the Work
At: AIA office, 3000 Richmond Ave
Please join J. Peter Jordan, AIA, CSI, CCS, LEEDÔ AP, is the President of Jordan Consultants, LLC, in Houston, Texas as he presents a 2 Part Seminar. PartI will focus on Substitutions This, That, or Whatever: Substitutions are almost universally disliked. General Contractors, Architects, Owners, Manufacturersall of these participants in the design/build process have reasons to dislike substitutions and be suspicious of those proposing a substitute product for a specified product. This program reviews these attitudes, discusses different methods of specification and how that might determine whether a product could be considered a substitution, and those situations when substitutions must be considered. Procedures for submitting, reviewing, and approving substitutions are also discussed. PartII will cover Changes in the Work: While most Owners and their Architect would prefer to develop construction documents that do not change, the reality is that almost all projects will undergo some changes after the Drawings and Specifications are issued. Architects need to understand why changes are necessary and how changes will be incorporated into the project during the procurement and construction phases. This presentation reviews the various types of changes, why they may be required, and how they are implemented under various types of building procurement methods. J. Peter Jordan AIA, CSI, CCS, LEEDÔ AP, is the President of Jordan Consultants, LLC, in Houston, Texas. With almost 40 years experience as a student, instructor, and practitioner of architecture, he has for most of the last 25 years been involved in teaching or writing construction specifications. Mr. Jordan has practiced in Georgia, Hawaii, and Texas, and worked on projects in the United States, Mexico, Diego Garcia, and throughout the Pacific Basin. He has been involved in developing RFPs and RFQs for public clients interested in using CM at Risk and Design-Build procurement methods for their projects. He has taught construction specifications at the university level and made presentations on topics related to construction contracts and specifications to various architectural firms, AIA, DBIA, and CSI.
