Reh Burwell Partners is pleased to announce that the Dallas Street Pedestrian Bridge and the Reserve at Westchase Plaza have received awards from the Associated Builders and Contractors of Greater Houston. The projects won the ABC's highest honors, the Excellence in Construction Awards, in two divisions. The bridge won in the Commercial Specialty division, and the Reserve at Westchase won in the Commercial $16-100 million division.

Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects, Inc. is pleased to announce that David H. Watkins, FAIA has been elected to the Board of Directors of the American Institute of Architects. Watkins is a former President of AIA Houston and the Texas Society of Architects.

Powers Brown Architecture has completed architectural design and construction is underway for RTRON's new corporate headquarters in Stafford, TX. Construction for the facility is scheduled for completion in May of 2001.

Urban Architectural Group, Inc. has designed and developed the Dickson Street Town Homes: Two new two stories, three bedrooms and two and one half bathrooms with 2,300 sf each carpeted seconded floor and yellow pine entire first floor.

Philo & Wilke Architects has completed the new corporate office facility for Vaughn Construction Company, Inc. The new 16,930 sf headquarters opened for operations in July 2000.

HOK Houston was recently commissioned to design a new administration and academic building for UT San Antonio. The HOK Houston Healthcare Facilities Group has been selected by Christus St. Elizabeth Hospital to provide services for a multi-facility expansion and improvement program for the hospital campus in Beaumont, Texas. Architectural services currently underway include the planning and design of a new, freestanding Outpatient/Ambulatory Care Center and Medical Office Building of 250,000 sf with an associated 1200 care structured parking garage. Expansions to the existing hospital will replace the existing emergency department, surgery and intensive care beds, and provide additional inpatient beds. An additional 1200 car parking garage is being planned for use by the main hospital. Renovations and improvements to the existing hospital will be phased to be completed following the new construction.

The Douglas/Group, Inc. Houston has been contacted by the Downtown Development District (DDD) of the City of New Orleans to provide Urban Graphic Design Wayfinding and Identity Development design services for the six separate and unique districts that comprise the DDD: Warehouse, Medical, Financial, Canal Historic, Picayune Historic and Lafayette Historic. The project will be completed by Super Bowl 2001.

Mark Kaufman, AIA, will speak on "Designing the 2,500 and Under Square Foot Home" at the 57th Annual NAHB International Builders' Show in Atlanta, Georgia, on February 12.

Watkins Hamilton Ross Architects, Inc. is pleased to announce the promotion of Anthony J. Haas, AIA to Principal. Anthony serves as a Senior Medical Planner for multiple healthcare projects.

In Memory



O'Neil Gregory, Jr., AIA, died on January 10. He graduated from Prairie View A&M University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Architectural Engineering. He was employed by several Houston architectural firms, including Caudill Rowlett Scott and Brooks/Collier, before opening his own practice, O'Neil Gregory Architects, in 1984. A medical architecture specialist, he was a registered architect in Texas, California and Colorado. He was an active participant in the Design and Urban Design Committees. In the arts community, he served on the boards of the Rice Design Alliance, the Contemporary Arts Museum and the Society for the Performing Arts. He was also a member of the Art Selection Committee for the University of Houston system. His wife of 33 years, Patricia, and daughter Gerjuan Angelique survive O'Neil. Contributions may be made in the name of O'Neil Gregory to the Prairie View A&M University School of Architecture.

Ralph Arthur Zander, 86, passed away on January 7. Ralph graduated with a degree in Architecture from the University of Minnesota and was associated with Kenneth Franzheim Architects for many years. He later joined Golemon & Rolfe Architects where he completed his career as a consultant to that firm. He was involved in the design of many of Houston's landmark buildings, and, most notably, Houston Intercontinental Airport.

Elegant Additions is pleased to announce that its owner, Julie Koch, has been voted as the Chairman of the National Kitchen and Bath's Decorative Plumbing and Hardware council for the year 2001.

Haworth Inc., the world's second largest office furniture manufacturer, names Russ Fabiani, AIA, as area manager for the Houston region. Fabiani will lead sales efforts in Houston, Austin, San Antonio, Corpus Christi and New Orleans.

SpawGlass was selected to construct the Houston Texas Temple for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The spire, which was erected in one piece, towers 150 feet above the finish floor. Inside, a 2,000 lb. crystal chandelier, custom artisan gold leafing, hand-sculpted carpet and colored art glass are just a few of the intricate details in the magnificent temple SpawGlass constructed.
