Michael A. Shirley, AIA, has joined 3D/International as a Senior Vice President and Director of Design.

M2L Associates has teamed with Hermes and Reed Architects to provide master plan services for a mixed-use, 104-area tract of land at Beltway 8 and Westheimer. M2L Associates is celebrating its fifth year in business providing landscape architecture services.

Jackson & Ryan Architects is pleased to announce new staff member Meredith McCree. The firm has been selected as the architect for the Arizona Humane Society's Campus for Compassion and for the TownePlace Suites by Marriott in Austin and Birmingham.

Browne Penland McGregor Architects has been awarded a contract with Digital Gene Technologies to assist in the programming, planning and design of expanded office and laboratory facilities in La Jolla, CA.

Gordon Smith, Scott Tucker, and Mike McSwain have joined PageSoutherlandPage Architects as project managers. Other additions are Anthony Wright, programmer, and Brice Wilborn, mechanical engineering designer.

William F. Stern and Associates announces a new partnership and a new name: Stern and Bucek Architects.

Ken Harry, AIA, has been appointed to the City of Houston's Building and Standards Commission.

Morris Architects has been chosen to create a facility in Orlando that visually related to the history of the original Walt Disney Feature Animation Studio campus in Burbank, CA.

The Menil Foundation has selected Craig Hughes, AIA, of Hughes Building & Design to provide architectural renovation services for the deMenil residence. The firm is also completing a 5,600 sf residential design/build project at 5622 Buffalo Speedway and will begin construction in September and October on two design/build residences on Oberlin and Marquette in West University Place.

SJKB's design of the Bovay Scout Ranch outside Navasota features a rustic Texas theme for the 1,400-acre, master-planned facility.

Peter G. Doyle, FAIA, has joined the Mathis Group, Inc., directing the firm's pre-construction services and business development efforts, and acting as principal-in-charge of selected projects.

Llewelyn-Davies Sahni, Inc. is pleased to announce the following new major projects and commissions: Theater District Master Plan, Diagnostic Systems Laboratories renovation and new facility, Nathdwara Temple, Metropolitan Community Church, Buffalo Bayou Trails, and the Savjani Residence, Clear Lake, in coordination with Val Glistch Architects. Blanca Vidaurri has been promoted to Marketing Assistant and Ross Culbertson has been added to the architecture and planning team.

House Reh Burwell Architects announces the following additions: Artis L. Brodie, Director of Marketing, John F. Knowles, AIA, Principal, and Tracy E. Lee as Director of Interiors. The firm recently completed architectural design services for The Reserve at Westchase, a three-building office park in west Houston. Chandrakant Patel, AIA, is House Reh Burwell's project manager.

The "Arch Award" was presented to seven local firms. The award, sponsored by CADeShack, recognizes excellence in the use of the ArchiCAD 6.0 Virtual Building Process. Firms recognized are: Kirksey and Partners, McCleary/German, Michael Gaertner & Associates, Facilities Design International, Ziegler Cooper, The OwneRep Group, and Collins Architects.

SWH Group Architects won three design awards for architectural excellence in the 1999 TASA/TASB Exhibition of School Architecture Pflugerville ISD's Copperfield Elementary.

Michael John Smith Lighting Consultant is pleased to announce that he has met the qualifications of the National Council for Qualifying Lighting Professionals. Recent commercial projects include the EG Bank and Holding Company in Geneva, Switzerland, Hotel Village Moouawad in Beirut, Lebanon with the Chase Collaborative, Hobby Airport Expansion with LAN, and the entry drive, pedestrian walkways and visitor parking areas at The Greenway high-rise condominiums.

Wallace/Garcia + Associates has promoted Fred T. Wilson, Jr. to Associate Architect and recently received a Merit Award at the 1999 Pacific Coast Builders Conference.

The University of Houston Downtown, Academic Student Services Building and the Texas Southern University's Jesse H. Jones School of Business were profiled in the 1999 Educational Interior Showcase issue of American School & University magazine. Pierce Goodwin Alexander & Linville submitted the entry for this annual publication honoring education interior design excellence.

Teresa L. Darr, AIA announces that Accessibility Check has received a contract from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation to review and inspect publicly funded projects, as well as privately funded projects, for compliance with the Texas Accessibility Standards.

Richard Floyd, FAIA, a former member of AIA Houston, died on July 30 in Dallas. He is survived by his wife, two sons, and two daughters.

Walter P. Moore's Parking Group has designed an innovative ramping system that serves a 17-story office building currently under construction at Perimeter Summit, a Hines development project in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Worrell Design Group is presently engaged in the planning and design of a dining facility for the University of Texas Nursing and Biomedical Sciences Building in Houston. They are working in collaboration with Watkins Hamilton Ross. The firm is involved in the design of the inmates and officers' dining facility for the new Harris County Jail in collaboration with PGAL.
