"Getting the Project," Paul Orseck

We will resume our monthly roundtable meetings in September with everyone's favorite topic: marketing.

Start thinking about your company brochure, photographs, and other marketing materials and we can share, critique, and offer new ideas. Bring these materials to the meeting. The speaker is Paul Orseck. Following a successful career in sports broadcasting for KTRH, KPRC and KILT radio, he was an ABC Radio "World of Sports" broadcaster. In 1975, he formed his own advertising/PR firm and handles a variety of clients from professionals (architects, doctors, etc.) to retail businesses.

John Breeding and Clark Martinson of Uptown Houston will give an update on the proposed West Loop expansion. Please make your reservations now.

Patsy Ricon-Kallman, Assistant Director of Long Range Planning for the City of Houston, spoke in July about Sector Planning and the Neighborhood Government initiative. The city has designated 88 super neighborhoods. Neighborhood Government is a conduit between these neighborhoods and the city, which will assist the city in identifying community needs and infrastructure planning.

Sector planning is an effort to identify the needs of various areas of the city to guide development. As an example, an area identified as ripe for an industrial park would be offered tax incentives by the city to encourage developers to build such a facility in that area.

The agenda for the September meeting includes plans for several upcoming tours, finalizing details for the Christmas Gala, and continued work on the committee website.

The 1998 Christmas Gala is scheduled for November 2. It was scheduled earlier this year to allow members and guests to work it around the busy holiday season. The guest speaker is Dr. Richard Wainerdi, president of the Texas Medical Center and publisher/editor of the Texas Medical Center News. Plan to attend, earn LUs, and eat good food!
