Firm Award, Young Architect Award Nominations Due February 6
Achievements in practice and design will be recognized with the 2004 Firm Award [Nomination form as PDF document] and Young Architect Award [Call for entry form as PDF Document] at Celebrate Architecture on April 24. Nomination forms for these honors are posted on the web, www.aiahouston.org.
The Firm Award is given to a firm that has practiced distinguished architecture for at least ten years. In addition to being recognized at Celebrate Architecture, the recipient will be the Chapter's nominee for the Texas Society of Architects' Firm Award. A jury of previous winners will review the submissions. Previous winners include Taft Architects, Jackson Ryan Architects, Morris Architects, Ray Bailey Architects, Kirksey, and FKP.
The Young Architect must be under 40 years of age on February 4, 2004, or within the first ten years of practice. Both the nominee and the nominator must be members of the Chapter. The jury is composed of the Past President of AIA Houston, the Dean of one of our three schools of architecture, and the previous year's winner. The 2003 Young Architect is Dallas Felder of HOK. Previous winners include Wes Good, AIA, of Kirksey; Donna Kacmar, AIA, UH faculty member; Mark Francis, AIA, Gensler.
So get busy. It's time to give flowers to the living. Questions? Call Martha Murphree at 713-520-0155.

April Is Architecture Month
Mark your calendars; April is Architecture Month, an annual AIA Houston project of the Young Architects' Forum. Building on last year's successful "Rotunda Show," we will again be displaying our best work at Memorial City Mall. We are eager to increase our exposure this year so we are starting now with a word of encouragement to each AIA firm. Last year's participants and the show in general received great reviews and provided tremendous exposure for the AIA. More than 100,000 people visited the Mall and viewed the work during the six weeks of the exhibition. This event, unlike many others we will be hosting, gives Houston architects the best chance of showing the general public the diversity and all encompassing nature of our profession.
Details of how to get involved will be provided to each firm in January.
Other events of Architecture Month will include tours, a student day in architects' offices, Celebrate Architecture on April 24 and events created by other organizations such as FotoFest, RDA Home Tour, Greater Houston Preservation Alliance tours. Watch the web site, www.aiahouston.org, and your email for details.
