Contract Alert

It has come to our attention that a document similar to AIA Form G 702 is in circulation. Architects should note that in the similar form (Q 702), the architect's certification reads: "Architect's signature below is his assurance to Owner. . ."

Architects Respond to Allison

In addition to cleaning out their own houses and offices and helping their clients, neighbors and relatives deal with the effects of the worst flood in living memory, Houston architects responded generously to the needs of strangers. They deserve our thanks.

What did we do?

Called attention to information on our website about flood cleanup and working with a contractor
Distributed that information through the eight FEMA emergency assistance centers and the Red Cross
Translated the information into Spanish at FEMA's request
Through FEMA, offered volunteers to homeowners for damage assessment
Donated extra Sand Castle Competition t-shirts to the Red Cross
Answered questions and distributed information at an AIA booth at FEMA's Home Recovery Fair
Spoke to appraisers and other FEMA volunteers about mold
Sent volunteers to provide pro bono advice on assessment of damage and repair needs to homeowners calling the Chapter office for the service

The architects who answered the Chapter's call for volunteers include: Sandra Guerrero-Ward (Brand Allen); George Tracy, AIA (SDT Architects); Mark Vaughn, AIA (WHR); Timothy Rose, Associate AIA (Kirksey); Steve Durham, AIA (Kirksey); Dan Barnum, AIA (Hall Barnum Architects), Mark Serhus, Associate AIA, (FKP); Bob Brown, AIA (Mike Gaertner and Associates), Howard Merrill, AIA (Rey de la Reza Architects), Lercia Davis (Heights Venture Architects), David Foster, AIA (David Foster Architects), Cari Dunatchik (3DI); Ron Smith (BMC West); Randall Walker, AIA (Kirksey), Jay Ernst, (Kirksey), Randy Thomas (Kirksey), Scot Hutchison (Kirksey), and Erika Schwarz (Ray Bailey Architects).

Thanks to A&E Products for printing the information distributed through the FEMA centers.

While a flood like Allison is not likely to come again soon, something else no doubt will. AIA Houston needs to be ready for it. If you are interested in joining a Disaster Action Task Force, call the Chapter office.
